International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Faculty of Science of The Maldives National University enters into a Memorandum of Understanding.
The MoU was signed this morning at The Maldives National University. The MoU was signed by Dr Ameer Abdulla, Chief of Party, Maldives – USAID-IUCN Project Regenerate and Dr Shazla Mohamed, Dean, Faculty of Science, Maldives National University. This MoU will facilitate to organize public seminars to promote involvement of local students in research activities conducted in the Maldives Spread awareness on environmental issues including (but not limited to) climate change and marine ecosystems, and Facilitate knowledge exchange and collaboration between professionals working in the Maldives and students of the Faculty of Science. Moreover, under this MoU, apprenticeship/internship schemes will be created for the students of the BSc of Environmental Management in order to provide current students and recent graduates with practical experience in the field of Environmental Management. In the pursuit of the above objectives, the Parties will cooperate in general matters related to biodiversity, but especially also in site- or area-specific matters. Faculty of Science has been collaborating with IUCN on similar grounds since January 2014. This Agreement will last for four years starting from 2016.
